We offer a comprehensive range of data acquisition and software radio products containing A/D and D/A converters (as listed in the table below). The products are available in a selection of form factors VME/VXS, PMC, XMC, PCI, PCIe, cPCI software support for commonly used OS (Windows, VxWorks and Linux) to ensure customers can integrate the products into their systems easily. In addition, many of the products feature user-programmable FPGAs, allowing customers to install their own IP with minimal effort using the Pentek Gateflow toolkit.
The phrase “Software Defined Radio” (SDR) covers a huge range of applications including Tracking Receivers, Direction Finding systems and Radar Processing units. While these applications may differ in terms of bandwidth, frequencies used and channel count, the fundamental hardware building blocks are similar in all cases. Our product range is designed for commercial SDR applications using PMC/XMC and PCIe form factors. More rugged applications can also be supported using cPCI and VME/VXS products.
Previous generations of radio receiver had to rely on dedicated ASIC technology to implement the repetitive, yet primitive operations closest to the antennae, with programmable DSPs to implement the lower bandwidth/higher complexity functions further down the chain. FPGA technology has now advanced sufficiently to cover much of the old ASIC functionality, but allowing reconfigurability for ultimate system flexibility. The latest FPGAs contain dedicated building blocks (multipliers, on-chip memory, Multi GHz serial transceivers, etc) which allow them to receive (multiple) high speed data streams and process them (using downconversion, filtering, decimation, etc) in real time.
All the products listed below feature high-speed ADC channels linked to FPGAs which can implement Digital Down Conversion (DDC). Customers who want an off-the-shelf solution can buy the product with a DDC core pre-loaded into the FPGA. Alternatively, customers can write their own FPGA code and download it to the board using the Gateflow FPGA Design Kit. Some of the products also feature high speed DAC channels with Digital Up Conversion, making these ideal for applications such as jammers.
